Organic Swiss wines

Organic and biodynamic, direct from the cellars

On Helvitic you buy your organic Swiss wines directly from the cellars that make them: every bottle certified Organic or Demeter is sold by the winemaker, delivered to your door (free shipping from CHF 150 per cellar) or picked up at the cellar.

The certification is shown on every wine page, as declared by the cellar: organic farming (no synthetic pesticides or fertilisers) or Demeter biodynamics, which goes further by treating the estate as a living ecosystem. The short supply chain does the rest: fewer middlemen, direct traceability from vine to table.

Frequently asked questions — organic wines

What is an organic wine?

A wine made from grapes grown without synthetic pesticides or chemical fertilisers, under a certified standard. In Switzerland the best-known label is the Bud (Bio Suisse). On Helvitic, the certification declared by the cellar is shown on each wine page.

What is the difference between organic and Demeter (biodynamics)?

Biodynamics includes organic requirements and goes further: the estate is run as a living organism (natural preparations, lunar calendar, biodiversity). Demeter is the international label certifying this approach.

Is an organic wine also vegan?

Not necessarily: wine fining can use animal-based products (egg white, casein), even in organic wine. Vegan wines, clarified without animal inputs, carry their own certification — also shown on Helvitic wine pages.

What about natural wines?

"Natural wine" describes a winemaking approach (indigenous yeasts, little or no sulfites) with no official certification in Switzerland — which is why this selection only includes the audited Organic and Demeter certifications. The wines concerned carry the "Naturel" mention declared by the cellar on their page.
