Valais wines

Switzerland's largest vineyard, direct from the cellars

On Helvitic you buy Valais wines directly from the cellars that make them: every bottle is sold by the winemaker, delivered to your door (free shipping from CHF 150 per cellar) or picked up at the cellar, with no reseller.

The Valais is the country's largest wine region: about a third of Swiss production grows on the sun-drenched slopes of the Rhône valley, from Martigny to Salgesch, up to the terraced vines of Visperterminen — among the highest in Europe. It is also the cradle of indigenous grapes found almost nowhere else: Petite Arvine, Cornalin, Humagne Rouge and Amigne, alongside Fendant, the Valais expression of Chasselas.

Frequently asked questions — Valais wines

Which grapes are typical of the Valais?

Fendant (Chasselas) and Johannisberg (Sylvaner) for classic whites, Petite Arvine and Amigne for characterful whites, Cornalin and Humagne Rouge for indigenous reds, plus Dôle (a Pinot Noir and Gamay based blend) and Syrah.

What is an AOC Valais wine?

The Valais appellation d'origine contrôlée guarantees the grapes are grown and vinified in the canton under strict rules (limited yields, authorised grapes, minimum ripeness). On Helvitic, the appellation, alcohol content and sulfites are shown on every wine page.

How are Valais wines delivered?

By wine-specialised carriers (Vinolog, Planzer) within 3 to 5 working days after dispatch, in cases of 6, 12 or 17 bottles, or multiples of 6 from 24. Shipping CHF 9.90 per cellar, free from CHF 150. Cellar pickup is free.

Can you visit the cellars and taste on site?

Yes: cellars announce their tastings, open-cellar days and events on their Helvitic page. Follow your favourite cellars to be notified, and pick up your orders on site for free.
